Easter Time

Easter is nearly here, tomorrow it is Maundy Thursday , the Thursday before Good Friday. Easter to me commemorates the resurrection of Jesus Christ following his death by crucifixion. It is the most significant event of the christian calendar. The date on which Easter falls varies from year to year. Easter falls on the Sunday after the ecclesiastical Full Moon that falls on or after March 21. Easter is therefore observed between late March and late April . this year it falls on Friday 21st March to Sunday 23rd March.

Some traditions that have generated over the years are -----

Hot Cross Buns served on Good Friday
Hot cross buns are sweet, spiced buns, usually made with dried fruit and leavened with yeast. A cross, the symbol of Christ, is placed on top of the buns, either with pastry or a simple mixture of flour and water. .

Easter Eggs
Eggs, symbolising new life, has long been associated with the Easter festival. Chocolate Easter eggs are often given and are traditionally eaten on Easter Sunday, sometimes the chocolate is in shapes of Rabbits, Bilbies and Hens, but still given on Easter Sunday . Some people colour boiled eggs and serve them on Easter Sunday these eggs are decorated with food dye and then painted or decorated using hot wax to make out the pattern.

During this time we share these symbols in our home but also have a morning tea on the Sunday with all the family serving chocolate cake and a Dutch Easter cake that I make each year to celebrate . Hope you all have a very happy Easter and a safe one too.
